Predstavili bomo dva poglavitna jezikovna problema, to sta izposojanje in kodno preklapljanje.

Title:LINGUISTIC QUESTIONS OF SLOVENE IMMIGRANTS INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Abstract:In the diploma thesis entitled “Linguistic questions of Slovene immigrant into the United States of America” we will first focus on historical facts, why migrations occurred, what were the causes for migrations, and how immigrants faced problems in the new territory. We will also explore how did they travel and got used to the new language. We will address linguistic problems of Slovene Americans, identify deficiencies and learn how the English language influences the Slovenian language. We will present two major linguistic problems: borrowing and code switching. To preserve Slovenian language it is utmost important to establish associations and schools that carry out their activities in the Slovenian language. In this thesis, we will present associations and school system, as well as Slovenian schools operating in the United States of America. We will also address Slovenian newspapers and present the most important ones. There are many people who have contributed a lot to the preservation of the Slovenian language and national consciousness. That is why we will present the life and work of Louis Adamič. At the end of the thesis, we will try to prove all the facts with examples. We will present people who still successfully contribute to the preservation of the Slovenian language and researchers who went across the pond and associated with still living immigrants and emigrants.
