Abstract:V Sloveniji in drugih državah Evropske unije je opazen trend rasti ekoloških kmetij in povpraševanja po ekoloških pridelkih.

Title:Conversion plan from a Small Mainly Arable Farm to an Organic Farm
Abstract:In Slovenia and other EU countries there is a growing trend in organic farms and demands for organic products. Farms transition to organic farming either on the basis of worldviews, economic or environmental reasons, assuming that the socio-political circumstances will be as well in favour of the conversion. The presented conversion plan is made for the coventional farm, which is located in north-eastern Slovenia and covers 6.64 ha. Based on the calculation of total costs a simulation model was developed in order to establish whether the conversion to organic production is economically viable. Calculations were made for three periods, all covered in the conversion plan: conventional period, conversion period and period after the conversion to organic farming, when the organic status of crops is achieved. The conventional period is presented for the year 2015. It illustrates the current state and farming practices. The conversion takes two years. It involves changes needed to ensure the production is in compliance with the organic regulations and some other novelties. The financial results of the conventional production were based on an accrual calculation, totalling in 837 €. The plan calculations in the conversion period estimated a financial result of 3,343 € and 9,075 € after the conversion to organic farming. Positive and negative factors that may influence one’s decision to do a conversion and carry out other intended changes on the farm are exposed in the SWOT analysis. We conclude that organic farming is economically viable in all included periods; moreover, compared to the conventional production, the financial result after converting to organic farming is fourth times higher as well as the organic status of crops, which in effect is ten times higher. Despite excellent economic indicators, the potential conversion will in the end depend on an array of other factors.
