Title:THE POSIBILLITY OF CONVERTING TO ORGANIC PRODUCTION ON SMALL VEGETABLE FARM
Abstract:An increasing number of consumers are looking for organic vegetables, which farmers can provide after the diversion of their Vegetable farms, which are currently included in the scheme of integrated production. The conversion plan may be the basis for the decision to change the mode of agricultural production. For this purpose a technological-economic simulation model for the small vegetable farm in Podravje has been created and based on the method of calculation of the total cost, and on the basis of economic parameters to assess the eligibility of the conversion. The economics of the conversion is estimated for integrated production, conversion period, and for organic cultivation for the production of outdoor and indoor areas and for individual vegetables, which you follow with regard to the expected rotation. The input data for each map technology was derived directly from the studied farm practice and from the literature. The model calculations of the total cost of vegetables include: use of propagating material, use of fertilizers, use of plant protection products, operating hours, machine work and hired machinery services, and general costs (control posts, water, electricity). The financial result increased on the farm level after conversion (integrated = € 10,112.38, organic = 17,073.21). It also increases the number of hours that the organic method of farming provides 1.8 PDM (PDM integrated = 0.62). For the analyzed farm a SWOT analysis was presented, which includes both positive and negative factors affecting the decision to divert. Redirecting small and vegetable farms to organic farming is economically justified, but it is also key to a shift concerning a number of other factors (knowledge, market interests of family members of the legal structure of the farm), which also affect the decision to change the method of farming.
