Abstract:Magistrsko delo poudarja pomembnost strokovnega in kakovostnega prevajanja turističnih besedil kot načina širjenja kulture v soodvisnosti s področjem oglaševanja.

Title:Farm stays in Slovenia – transfer of culturemes in German translations
Abstract:The thesis emphasizes the importance of professional and high-quality translation of tourist texts as a means of spreading culture in correlation with the field of advertising. It highlights the increasing demand on the segment of tourist farm stays in Slovenia. The thesis consists of two main parts, i.e. theoretical and empirical part, wherein the theoretical part encompasses a description of the development of language and culture, a presentation of some linguistic features of tourist texts, as well as a presentation of the typology of tourist texts and the translation strategies used in the process of translating tourist texts. The Skopos theory, the Cultureme theory and the Meme theory represent the basis for the empirical part of the master’s thesis. Included in the empirical part are the analysis and comparison of 1) the tourist catalogues Turistične kmetije v Sloveniji written in Slovene and its translation into German Urlaub am Bauernhof in Slowenien from 2013, and 2) the Slovene tourist catalogue Turistične kmetije Slovenija and its German translation Urlaub am Bauernhof Slowenien from 2016. The emphasis is on the analysis of translation strategies used to translate culture-specific vocabulary. In order to translate culture-specific expressions, translators in general use either the strategy of foreignisation or the strategy of domestication. The current master’s thesis analyses culture-specific expressions in connection to characteristic Slovene cuisine and suggests that the translator does not use a consistent strategy to translate such elements which diminishes the transfer of culturemes from the source into the target culture.
