Title:Opec and its position in the world oil market
Abstract:Countries often form the intergovernmental organizations in order to achieve goals that can not be met on a national level. An example of an intergovernmental organization is OPEC. The organization is often given as an example of a cartel that affects the market prices by limiting production. We can argue this statement with the fact that competition on the oil market has always been present. In the last century the factor of competition in the oil industry were the companies that entered the market when prices were high and the demand was significantly lower than today. In the twenty-first century the discovery of additional oil reserves and the technological development contributed to competitiveness. Larger competitiveness can be expected in the future due to reducing costs of the alternative energy technologies. OPEC can face the market changes with the reorganization of the way the organization operates. There are several strategies available: production quotas agreements, price wars, production efficiency, monetary compensation and economic diversification. In the world of moderate demand for fossil fuels OPEC can transform into an organization that advises oil-exporting countries how to reduce dependence on oil industry revenues.
