Title:Emotional profile of preschool children in dental care
Abstract:This thesis examines children's emotions before and after a dentist appointment, and the influence of their behaviour before and after an appointment on their parents or those who accompany them. The initial part of the thesis offers a brief overview of the following topics: children's development and attachment, emotional characteristics of children, children's fear and reactions to a dentist appointment. The main goal of our thesis was to analyze children's reactions to a dentist appointment. We studied the reactions of 89 children using a descriptive and non-experimental causal method to determine whether motivated and prepared children react better to a dentist appointment than less motivated and underprepared children. We also examined the children's attitude towards their parents or those who accompanied them before and after the appointment. Based on the absolute frequency we determined that parents often prepare children for a dentist appointment with the help of fairy tales, conversations and promises. Prior to the appointment, children often experience fear and cry, but express no anger or aggression towards their parents or those who accompany them; after the appointment, 86 children usually do not wish to let go of them and want to be hugged.
