Abstract:V magistrskem delu smo analizirali uradne in neuradne podnapise k filmski franšizi »Zgodbe iz Narnije«, ki so v filmiski režiji izšle leta 2005, 2008 in 2010.
Keywords:Zgodbe iz Narnije, strategije prevajanja, lastna imena, podnaslavljanje, neuradni podnapisi, Peter Newmark, Mona Baker, Vinay in Darbelnet.

Title:Translation challenges in the subtitles: comparative analysis of professional subtitles and fansubs for "The Chronicles of Narnia"
Abstract:The thesis focuses on the translation of official and unofficial subtitles to the franchise "Stories from Narnia" which are analyzed and compared. In the first part of the thesis, we presented the theoretical background, using the descriptive method and focusing on the translation strategies by Jean-Paul Vinay in Jean Darbelnet, Mona Baker and Newmark, and the strategies for translating personal names by Newmark and Theo Hermans. We also described types and principles of subtitling, restrictions, and presented amateur subtitles (fansubs) as a social phenomenon. In the empirical part of the thesis we presented the comparative analysis between official and unofficial translations. Our analysis is based on a comparative method of research. In the empirical part of the thesis we also introduced translations of proper names and emphasized the differences in spelling, grammar and meaning.
Keywords:The Chronicles of Narnia, translation strategies, personal names, subtitles, fansubs, Peter Newmark, Mona Baker, Vinay and Darbelnet.
