Title:The role of dance in the sensomotoric development in pre-school children
Abstract:In the diploma thesis we wanted to determine whether dance activities in pre-school period effect children's sensorimotor development. Our interest was focused on differences between testing results of sensorimotor skills between children who attend dance classes in their free time and children who do not. We used a non-random sample from the specific population of 70 children divided into two groups – a group of children who attend dance classes (experimental group) and a group of children who do not attend dance classes (control group). In every group there were 35 children, aged from 4 to 6. The data were collected by quantitative techniques, balance and motion tests. The obtained data were analysed with descriptive statistics (the arithmetic mean, standard deviation) and bivariate analysis in a way that we analysed the result differences of sensorimotor tests with t-test for independent samples. The results showed statistically significant differences between children who attend dance classes in their free time and children who do not attend dance classes in their free time in twelve sensorimotor skills out of thirteen tested. The motor skill test, running by changing direction, TSS test has shown no statistically significant differences.
