| Opis: | In the thesis we analysed translation of religious cultural-specific elements or realia in Slovene and German translations of the novels Angels and Demons (2000), and The Da Vinci Code (2003) by Dan Brown. We analysed Slovene translations of Angels and Demons, from the year 2013, and The Da Vinci Code, from the year 2005, by Nataša Müller and compared them to German translations of Angels and Demons (Iluminati, from the year 2004), translated by Axel Merz, and The Da Vinci Code (Sakrileg, from the year 2007), translated by Piet van Poll. In the theoretical part we explored various definitions and classifications of cultural-specific elements and Gideon Toury’s concept of translation norms, followed by the definition of translation strategies of Mona Baker and Peter Newmark. In the empirical part we compared originals with Slovene and German translations, defined translation strategies and commented on the adequacy of the translation as compared to the original. The analysis showed that the translators most often used a word for word translation strategy and that in most cases religious cultural-specific elements were transferred adequately. |
