Abstract:V letu 2018 smo opravili analizo poznavanja, odnosa in obnašanja študentov glede vsebnosti soli in joda v prehrani. Študenti so slabo ozaveščeni o virih soli in joda. Sol in druge dodatke uporabljajo pogosto in nekritično, pri tem pa le vsak deseti študent pozna priporočeni dnevni odmerek soli. Le 10 % študentov namerno in zavestno redno uživa hrano z nizko vsebnostjo soli.

Title:Analysis of student knowledge, attitude and behaviour towards salt and iodine in food
Abstract:In 2018, we conducted an analysis of students' knowledge, attitudes and behaviour concerning salt and iodine in food. A survey with 400 individuals coming from various study programmes at the University of Maribor was conducted. The questionnare included 21 questions and was prepared in a way that enabled us to determine their knowledge about content, use and impact of salt and iodine in the diet. The survey was performed in Slovenia and was a part of a larger global study, performed in 15 countries around the world. Observed knowledge of students about salt in the diet is poor and their knowledge of iodine is very poor. They are very poorly informed about the dietary sources of salt and iodine. They use salt often and uncritically, meanwhile only every tenth student knows what is the daily salt intake recommendations. Only 10 % of students intentionally and consciously consume low-salt foods regularly. Students are not aware of the adverse health effects caused by excessive diet intake of salt or too low iodine intake. They are aware of salt related risks of high blood pressure and obesity, while the risks related to kidney stones, osteoporosis and gastric cancer are generally unknown. Particularly problematic is that more than a third of young people do not know whether or not iodine is important for health.
