Title:Construction puzzles and their integration into the concept of kindergarten activity
Abstract:This bachelor’s thesis, Construction Puzzles and Their Integration into the Concept of Kindergarten Activity Planning, consists of a theoretical, an empirical and a practical part. The aim was to assess the extent to which kindergarten teachers plan their activities with construction puzzles for children of different ages as well as whether activities are actually carried out. Furthermore, my goal was to design several models for both age groups that would enable kindergarten teachers to regularly include construction puzzles into their activities and to plan them ahead. Construction puzzles can be found in every home and institution; therefore, it would be sensible for children to take advantage of them to practice their skills, use their imagination and create different sculptures. It is a misconception that adults should not interfere when children are handling construction elements as they tend to turn this activity into a game. Instead, they should be encouraged to take on different challenges, to learn something new every day and to use that knowledge further. In the empirical part of the thesis, represented by an analysis of use of construction puzzles in kindergartens, we found that kindergarten teachers' familiarity with various construction puzzles depends on their interests which is consequently reflected in the implementation of activities involving different puzzles. Based on the findings of the empirical part, in the practical part we developed several models for activities with construction puzzles.
