Title:The need of childcare workers to consult nursery advisory service in introducing inclusive practices
Abstract:The adoption of the inclusive paradigm caused an increased rate of children with special needs (CSN) in Slovenian kindergartens and primary schools, who must be provided with equal opportunities in the education system. The changes demand team cooperation, altering of the established ways and methods of work and professionally educated expert workers. With the inclusion of different children into regular kindergartens, childcare workers are facing new work tasks, for which they are often not ready due to different reasons, mostly due to a lack of competences for work with CSN’s. They need help, support and cooperation of the advisory service, which performs the basic functions of advising, consulting and coordination through its advisory role. Through its consulting function, the advisory service can recognize the needs of childcare workers and enable to look for solutions for better advancement and assistance for the child. The cooperation between childcare educators and advisory services has a positive impact and directs the work in inclusive departments. The realization of needs of childcare educators for consultations is met by differently organized advisory services. In the case of kindergartens, they are organized as independent nursery advisory services, and in the case of schools as joint and mobile advisory services. Their operations depend on the culture of the kindergarten, mutual cooperation and flexibility in the introduction of inclusive practices.
