Abstract:Osrednji namen diplomskega dela je bil ugotoviti, kako masaža vpliva na površinsko temperaturo telesnih regij konjev – pleče, stegno, križ in prsi.

Title:Analysis of manual massage therapy effects on surface temperature in horses
Abstract:The main purpose of this diploma thesis was to determine the effectiveness massage therapy has on a horse’s surface temperature in certain areas – shoulders, thighs, lower back, and chest. This inspired an experiment, in which we used a thermographic camera to measure temperature changes in four bodily regions which had been massaged – shoulders (both left and right), thighs (both left and right), chest and lower back. Six warm-blooded horses from the equestrian club Konjeniški klub Kasco Svečina were involved in the experiment which was repeated three times. The surface temperature of the horses was measured with an Optris PI 400i thermographic camera. The shots were captured before the massage (24 hours and right before the massage), immediately after the massage (5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes after the massage) and 24 hours after the massage. The massage was performed by an experienced horse massage therapist. The gathered data was statistically evaluated by the R programme (R x 64 3.2.5). The results suggest that time had no substantial influence on the temperature of the observed bodily regions except for the right thigh section (p = 0,02, α = 0,05). While determining the effects consecutive massages had on certain bodily regions, the 5 % risk significantly influenced all the observed bodily regions except for the right shoulder section (p= 0,13).
