Title:Counsellors in educational establishments: activities, cooperation and stress in the workplace
Abstract:The purpose of this thesis is to examine the common activities of school counsellors, with whom they most often collaborate and what is their opinion on the conditions in their workplace. In the theoretical part, we presented a summary of the history of school counselling and the theory and definitions. We presented profiles working in the school counselling service and the institutions. We summarized the activities, principles and necessary conditions, as described in the guidelines. We focused on issues in school counselling today. In the empirical part, we presented the data from our questionnaire, which was answered by 62 school counsellors from Slovenia. We tried to find out if there are differences in the responses to the survey according to the age and type of educational institution. More than half of the respondents mentioned working with students with behavioural problems as the most common activity (50.8%). We asked with whom counsellors think that more cooperation is needed: the majority (52.5%) thinks that they do not cooperate enough with parents. We also inquired whether the profession of counsellor is stressful or not and found that the opinion on this is evenly distributed: 30 of them answered that the profession is stressful (48.4%), and 32 answered no (51.6 %).
