Title:Humour on tourism during the covid-19 crisis: analysis of Facebook posts in groups intended for travellers
Abstract:Facebook is a channel that is dedicated to accessing a variety of information, but at the same time, it also allows individuals or communities to share, discuss, and monitor content with common interests. When the pandemic was declared, due to the COVID-19 crisis, we noticed an increased use of humour in tourism topics, travel and the COVID-19 crisis, in Facebook groups intended for travellers. Humour plays an important role in providing a positive experience in tourism. Beside that, we have found through text analysis that humour plays an important role in dealing with the crisis. With the analysis, we wanted to find out how often travellers use humour to cope with the crisis and criticize tourism and the tourism industry during the COVID-19 crisis. Furthermore, we identified thematic areas of humour use in all Facebook posts. By analyzing Facebook posts, we gained a direct reflection of the tourist’s concerns and criticisms and ways of using humour in times of crisis. The findings of the final work are important for tourism companies and represent an important step in understanding the role of humour in crisis communication and potential future use of humour in tourism promotion.
