Abstract:V okviru zaključnega dela smo preverjali značilnosti pripovedovanja šestletnikov.

Title:Characteristics of narrative of 6-year-olds on illustrations in the picture book The Boy Who Became a Hedgehog (Janček ježek)
Abstract:In this thesis, we examine the characteristics of storytelling in 6-year-old children. The theoretical framework introduces speech development in the preschool period from the pre-linguistic to the linguistic stage. In this chapter, we also present factors that affect speech development, and how the latter can be encouraged in different settings. The main focus of this capter is the children's storytelling; coherence and cohesion, narrative arc, and factors that influence storytelling. In addition, we also introduce social genres of the Slovenian language, highlighting the Prlekija dialect. 12 children aged 6 years took part in the empirical research. First, we read the folk tale Janček ježek together, and afterwards they were given 10 days to read the tale again, this time with their parents. After an agreed period of time, the children retold the story with a picture book at the kindergarten. Their stories were recorded with a voice recorder, transcribed, and analyzed in various aspects; the summary of the essence of the story, the use of standard or colloquial language, the use of the parts of speech, and the story’s length in the number of sentences. The results confirmed our assumptions; firstly, almost all children managed to capture the essence of the story, and secondly, the most often used part of speech was the noun. On the contrary, the length of the stories was below our expectations; only 17.8 sentences were used in a story on average. We were surprised by the fact that the children mostly opted for standard language and included only a few dialectal expressions. We had expected the children to mostly speak in their dialect, as it dominates their everyday speech.
