Title:Comparison of the number of packages before and during the epidemic at the post office mozirje
Abstract:In this diploma thesis, we wanted to investigate how the epidemic affected the number of packages received at the Mozirje post office. We analyzed six selected months in the years 2020 and 2021 when the epidemic was declared in Slovenia, and then compared them with the months in which the epidemic was not declared. We also made a comparison between the three months of 2020 and 2021 during the declared epidemic in Slovenia to see how the amount of packages reflected in the first year of the declared epidemic compared to the second year. We obtained data on the amount of packages from overview notes of the post office. We calculated how many percent more or fewer packages had arrived at the post office in a given month. We found that the epidemic caused a huge increase in online shopping and as a result the need for more postal services. The trend of online shopping, together with globalization and digitization, will only grow over the years, and postal service providers will have to take advantage of the given situation and adapt as much as possible with new technologies and the way postal services are implemented. As a solution to shorten the processes related to receiving and handing over packages, we proposed the introduction of a parcel machine with a POS terminal in front of the post office in Mozirje, which would allow customers to hand over or pick up a package without the help of postal employees.
