Title:Transition of family business from the 2nd to 3rd generation
Abstract:A family business is a form of business that is very different from non-family businesses. Family businesses involve the participation of family members in the management of the company, whereby they present the image of their company to the outside world with their family's culture, values, and interests. Family members involved in the business are closely related to each other and that can affect the business both positively and negatively. One of the factors that has the greatest influence on the successful operation and longevity of a family business is the process of continuation or transition of the business from one generation to the next. Family business managers have several different options available to them from which they can choose whom to leave their life's project to, their business. It is crucial to think about succession in the company. In many cases, companies whose succession process is side-lined later fail because they do not have a sufficiently qualified successor to take over and run the company. One of the main problems in Slovenia is that most companies do not prepare for the transition to the next generation, which is why many of them fail after the transition from the first to the second generation. In the diploma project, on the example of the company Lesdom, we examined the company's life path, its establishment on the market and current operations. We also learned how the transfer from the first to the second generation took place and what are the possibilities of the transition from the second to the third generation.
