Title:Knowledge acquisition of preschool children in the field of design and technology by means of a project assignment titled bug hotel
Abstract:This final thesis consists of empirical and practical part. The analysis and findings of the research were aimed at establishing types of working tools and working materials that children use for technical activities and are presented in the empirical part. We also wanted to find out the importance of introducing children with the use of working tools in the preschool period and at the same time we have wondered whether the teachers knew the project task strategy and use it at work. We have established that familiarization with the use of tools at preschool children seemed important to the teachers. The research has also showed that teachers are familiar with the project task but rarely use it for obtaining knowledge in the fields of technology. That has encouraged us to carry out a project task in the practical part of the thesis which has indicated that the use of tools is appropriate in the preschool period. We have discovered that preschool children enjoyed being part of the project task as they have acquainted themselves with arable tools and manners of working with them via project. At the same time they have learned to take care of safety at work and follow the phases of development of the project. This project has stimulated us to use such and similar strategies in larger degree in the future and we hope that our case will also encourage other teachers to do the same.
