Title:The importance of educational interventions in a patient receiving anticoagulant therapy
Abstract:Introduction: Anticoagulants (AK) are drugs that play an important role in preventing blood clots and are used for a variety of diseases, disorders and conditions that are associated with thromboembolic events. AK therapy increases the complexity of prescribing, requiring the support and education of healthcare professionals, and the use of different clinical protocols and methods of education. The aim of this final work paper is to present the importance of nurse education interventions for the patient receiving AK therapy. Methods: We used the descriptive method and the compilation method. Literature retrieved using inclusion and exclusion criteria was searched in the CINAHL, Cochrane library and Medline databases, a complete overview of which was presented using the PRISMA diagram. Discussion: Educational programs should contain standardised, clearly defined content that focuses on knowledge gaps and is important for the safe use of AK therapy. Patient education by nurse based on video presentation, brochure and questionnaire is practically achievable and permanently improves the understanding of the safety aspects of the treatment, demonstrating that it would be optimal to introduce such forms of education into routine practice. Conclusion: The nurse plays an important role in the management of the patient receiving anticoagulant therapy, since without proper education, there is a high risk of complication that can lead to death. With proper patient education, positive outcomes can be achieved. It's important to realise that the nurse not only educates, but also prepares the patient for a different way of lifestyle.
