Abstract:Vedno več žensk zavzema visoke položaje na vseh ravneh poslovnega, političnega in družabnega življenja.

Title:Women and career development in management
Abstract:Nowadays, more and more women are taking high positions in business as well as political and social life. However, many observe and believe that women status is not equal to men. It has been a long journey for women to achieve what they have achieved until today, but they will still have to put a lot of effort for equal treatment between men and women. Glass ceiling is broken for women only after they harmonise their family life and career. Men do not need to do that. It looks like it is only on women of how it will be for them in business life, but the status of women is also dependent by the company policies and the legislation. Overtime, men started to look at women differently in business life as equal partners to them. Women as managers are proving that they can achieve the same or much more if being ambitious and disciplined. Most women ask themselves before starting careers, if doing only the career or doing the career including family life, considering the fact that caring for children affects women more in relation to men. In a period when women start to build their career, they have to decide whether they want a family or not. The decision about having a family or not, usually brings certain changes in their lives. Women usually feel discomfort when they have to correlate between their business and family life, even though that hours spent at work are mostly even between genders. The difference between men and women in relation to career is based mostly on the women’s decision of how the career would affect their family life. Motherhood in business life is marked negatively by most European countries. When we think about women as being equal to men in the labour market, we are talking about equal opportunities for employment, the same payment for the same job done, having the same accessibility to more demanding jobs and still providing conditions for the specific needs for women, in relation to motherhood. The potential of women in business life is still underestimated, because their work is undervalued and paid less. Women are meeting lots of obstacles in their business path. Nevertheless, women are becoming more and more aware that achieving their goals is mainly dependent on themselves, their ambitions, confidence, effort and wishes.
