Title:Anthropocene as an interdisciplinary subject in teaching German as a foreign language in Slovenian primary schools
Abstract:In this master thesis, we discuss the importance of Anthropocene as an environmental subject in schools. The research is based on the German encouragement book WErde wieder wunderbar: 9 Wünsche fürs Anthropozän and the accompanying educator's handbook. The term Anthropocene is a new term that describes the current era in which humans have caused significant environmental changes. It was only at the beginning of the 21st century that the term was acknowledged and since then gained more and more attention. The focus of this thesis also lies on the topic of Anthropocene. In the theoretical part, we will present the following topics: Anthropocene, technical language, education for sustainable development, interdisciplinary teaching and curriculum in Slovenian primary schools. Furthermore, empirical studies are conducted, analyzing selected curricula from Slovenian primary schools and learning scenarios from the handbook. This is followed by an exemplary didactic approach, which serves as a model for the inclusion of Anthropocene themes in the classroom. In the final part of the thesis, we define the recommendations and limitations that need to be considered when adapting Anthropocene themes to teaching German as a foreign language.
