Abstract:Osnovni namen magistrskega dela je bil izmeriti obseg kratkoročnega spomina učencev prvega, petega in devetega razreda.

Title:Short-term memory in schoolchildren
Abstract:The main purpose of the master's thesis was to measure the short-term memory span of first, fifth, and ninth-grade students. I measured the memory span of 125 students using four tasks that they solved in the form of an online game on a computer. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I described what memory is and how it is formed in the brain. I also described the development of memory across the lifespan, focusing on memory in early and middle childhood. I then listed and briefly described the types of memory and presented three types of memory in more detail – sensory, short-term/working, and long-term. Finally, in the theoretical part, I described what remembering is and what forgetting is, explained the word "mnemonics", and listed some memory techniques that we can use to improve our memory skills. The study showed that the type of item participants were asked to remember had an effect on memory, with participants finding it easier to remember digits than, for example, letters, objects, or the order in which the squares were coloured. There was also an effect of age, with the oldest participants having the best overall memory. Gender had no significant effect on memory.
