Title:Prevention of the most common injuries and illnesses that occur with police personnel
Abstract:In this thesis we studied the problem of injuries that occur most frequently in the work of police officers. We found information on the main causes of injuries and described ways to prevent them. The aim of the thesis was to present the most common injuries, both acute and chronic, and to describe suitable exercises that can be used to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. A review of the research found that between 2005 and 2006, 531 police officers were victims of various injuries. Of these, 514 were male (96.8%) and 17 were female (3.2%). Longer length of service was associated with a lower level of risk (Krope, 2012). Minor injuries account for the majority of injuries in police officers. Very few studies have examined non-fatal injuries in police officers. From reports in the period 2012 - 2015, minor injuries accounted for more than 73% of all injuries. The most common injuries occurring in police officers include: abrasions, cuts, bumps and sprains. While abrasions, cuts and bumps depend mainly on the appropriate equipment and the circumstances in which the police officer finds himself, sprains are one of the injuries that can be prevented with proper physical training. To successfully prevent accidents and injuries at work, it is important to know what causes them. In this thesis, we focus on musculoskeletal injuries that occur as a result of work and how to prevent them through exercise. We also described the problem of chronic pain and the causes that most often lead to it in police officers. We have listed some preventive exercises to address lower back pain, which is the most common chronic injury in police officers. The measures we have described are both preventive (preventing the injury from occurring) and corrective (acting as a curative measure for existing injuries).
