Title:Injuries associated with explosions
Abstract:Introduction: Injuries caused by exposure to explosives, or blast injuries, are a complex type of physical trauma resulting from direct or indirect exposure to explosives. The taxonomy separates blast injuries into five groups of injuries- primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary, and quinary. The research aims to find out what injuries are caused by explosions. Methods: In the thesis, we conducted a literature review. We searched the literature in the following databases: PubMed, CINAHL, and Medline. A review, analysis, and synthesis of the literature was performed. Results: Out of all 63 hits, we included 8 relevant articles in the analysis. The results showed that explosions can cause injuries affecting different body systems and organs. Blast injuries can vary greatly, including internal bleeding, brain damage, lung damage, and facial and limb injuries. Discussion and conclusion: Blast injuries represent a significant medical challenge as they can affect various body systems and organs. Research and understanding the mechanisms of blast injuries are crucial for improving the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of affected individuals. Although explosions in military conflicts are a common cause of blast injuries, it should be noted that such injuries can also occur in everyday life. It is also essential for healthcare workers to know blast injuries to triage and treat individual injuries appropriately. Above all, knowledge of the ABCDE algorithm is essential.
