Abstract:Uvod: SARS-CoV-2 je virus, ki povzroča resno bolezen, znano kot covid-19. Metode: Izvedli smo pregled literature v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, in dodatno Google Scholar. Za prikaz iskanja, pregleda in izbire člankov smo uporabili diagram PRISMA. Moč dokazov smo razvrstili z uporabo hierarhije dokazov. Uporabili smo deskriptivno metodo dela.

Title:Impact of smoking on course of covid-19: literature review
Abstract:Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 is a virus that causes a serious disease known as covid-19. A more difficult course can be caused by risk factors such as arterial hypertension, diabetes, obesity, chronic diseases and pre-existing cancerous diseases. However, some data show that smoking also affects the more severe course of covid-19. The purpose of the final work was to investigate the connection between smoking and a more severe course of covid-19. Methods: We performed a literature review in the databases PubMed, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and additionally Google Scholar. To display the search, review and selection of articles, we followed PRISMA diagram. The strength of evidence was ranked using the hierarchy of evidence. We used a descriptive method of work. Results: Out of total of a 315 sources identified, 10 hits based on quantitative methodology were included in the final analysis. All included studies had in common that a history of smoking is a risk factor for a more severe course and a higher chance of death from covid-19. Discussion and Conclusion: A more severe course and complications of covid-19 occurred more often in patients with a history of smoking. Smokers with covid-19 had a higher risk of being admitted to the intensive care unit. Smoking also posed a risk of death from covid-19. Raising awareness of the negative health consequences of smoking is crucial for the health of the global population.
Keywords:covid-19, smoking, worse course of covid-19
