Title:Overview of the situation of certified and non-certified coffee in Slovenia with a focus on sustainable supply chain
Abstract:Coffee is the world's most valued commodity and one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world. In this master thesis, we have focused on the coffee sector and have selected a sample of 50 different types of coffee present in Slovenia. Then we compared and analyzed the coffee supply chain and looked at how many coffees have a known origin and how many do not. We found that regulations and directives are constantly pushing companies towards greener, more sustainable, higher quality and more productive operations. A key finding of our research is that more than 64 % of the coffee samples included in the survey are not certified as sustainably produced in Slovenia. There is an opportunity for the coffee sector to turn theory into action and make significant progress towards a sustainable and equitable future. In fact, coffee certification is one of the drivers for the transition from a conventional coffee supply chain to a sustainable coffee supply chain. Buying sustainable products means choosing products that have been produced or grown in ways that have a positive impact on people and their social and natural environment. The task contributes to the generation of knowledge about coffee that could benefit new researchers in the future as a transition to a more sustainable coffee supply chain.
