Boljše rezultate so dosegli starejši anketiranci in tisti s srednješolsko izobrazbo. Priporočamo nadaljnje raziskave o poznavanju MS med zdravstvenimi delavci in bolniki in večjo izpostavljenost podatkov o bolezni v medijih in zdravstvenih ustanovah.

Title:Knowledge of multiple sclerosis among the lay population
Abstract:Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that can lead to disability. Despite advancements in treatment and awareness, the professional community finds that knowledge about MS among the lay population is not always sufficient. The study included 105 respondents. The respondents completed a questionnaire with 25 questions assessing their knowledge of MS, including its symptoms, causes, diagnosis, and treatment. The results showed that the respondents demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of MS, with most scoring between 50% and 70% of the possible points. Older respondents and those with a high school education achieved better results. More difficulties were encountered with questions related to the functioning of the human body and diagnostic procedures. Our research confirms that the lay population has satisfactory but not comprehensive knowledge of MS. The results are higher compared to international studies from 2021, indicating increased awareness. We recommend further research on MS knowledge among healthcare professionals and patients, as well as greater exposure to information about the disease in the media and healthcare institutions.
