Abstract:Uvod: Veganska prehrana izključuje vsa živila živalskega izvora. Metode: Na podlagi PEO raziskovalnega vprašanja smo znanstveno literaturo iskali z uporabo podatkovnih baz PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, CINAHL Ultimate in Google Učenjak. Potek iskanja člankov smo prikazali s PRISMA diagramom.

Title:The effects of a vegan diet on children's health
Abstract:Introduction: A vegan diet excludes all foods of animal origin. If properly balanced, it can contribute to optimal health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. The aim of this thesis is to determine the effects of a vegan diet on children's health. Methods: Based on the PEO research question, we searched the scientific literature using PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, CINAHL Ultimate and Google Scholar databases. The flow of the article search was illustrated with a PRISMA diagram. We used a descriptive method of working and performed analysis, synthesis and compilation of the main findings, in addition to a critical appraisal of the articles using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklists. Results: We included 5 articles in the final analysis. The results showed deficiencies in animal protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, calcium and vitamin D. The results of the critical appraisal of the articles showed that two articles met all the criteria and the others met 8/11, 7/11 and 6/11 of the criteria. Discussion and Conclusion: Vegan diets can have many benefits for adults. Vegan diets are not recommended for children as they are associated with lower intakes of iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, which can lead to neurological disorders, stunted growth and anaemia.
