Abstract:Uvod: Nenadni srčni zastoj je eden vodilnih vzrokov smrti v sodobni družbi. Metode: V tem diplomskem delu smo pregledali strokovno literaturo in primerjali dve najpogosteje uporabljeni mehanski napravi –AutoPulse in LUCAS. Razprava in zaključek: Uporaba mehanskih naprav lahko bistveno pripomore k boljšim izidom kardiopulmonalnega oživljanja, zlasti tam, kjer ročno oživljanje ni optimalno. Nadaljnji tehnološki razvoj in širša dostopnost teh naprav lahko v prihodnosti še povečata preživetje ob srčnem zastoju.

Title:Comparison of the effectiveness of autopulse and lucas mechanical devices in performing chest compressions
Abstract:Introduction: Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in modern society. Survival depends on rapid recognition and the immediate initiation of basic life support, including high-quality chest compressions, early defibrillation, and artificial ventilation. Manual compressions are physically demanding and can lead to rescuer fatigue, reducing resuscitation quality. To address this, mechanical chest compression devices have been developed. Methods: This thesis reviews relevant literature and compares two commonly used mechanical devices – AutoPulse and LUCAS. LUCAS device uses a piston to compress the sternum, while AutoPulse device applies a wide chest band that adapts to the patient’s body. We evaluated both devices in terms of efficiency, ease of use, and impact on resuscitation outcomes. Results: Both devices deliver consistent and effective compressions and improve resuscitation quality. They differ mainly in usability and adaptability. Mechanical devices are especially useful when manual compressions are difficult or impossible. Discussion and Conclusion: Mechanical chest compression devices can significantly improve cardiopulmonary resuscitation outcomes, particularly when manual efforts are compromised. With advancing technology and increased availability, these devices may further enhance survival rates in the future.
