Title:Improving business leadership
Abstract:Leadership represents one of the key factors influencing the sustainable development and existence of companies and other organizations. It is a central task of management, which is gaining increasing importance in today’s society. Leadership can be substantively defined as a management function aimed at guiding employee behavior and work towards achieving the company’s set goals. A leader is successful when they are capable of forming a leadership style that also takes into account the needs and demands of their colleagues. Within this framework, communication and the ability to motivate colleagues are important areas of a leader’s responsibilities. Leadership is closely linked to communication, as it represents the skill of influencing others through communication in order to achieve selected goals. Through motivation, leaders encourage employees to carry out their activities and direct them toward fulfilling the company’s objectives. A leader’s duties also include planning their own work and the work of their team members. A leader must supervise the work of employees, coordinate tasks, and provide feedback regarding the quality of the work performed. They must continuously ensure that the tasks are goal-oriented and progressing in alignment with the set objectives. Furthermore, a leader must make decisions, foster employee motivation, and reward well-executed work. While performing their duties, a leader should prevent the emergence of conflicts and resolve them if they arise. For any company aiming for long-term success, it is essential to continuously develop appropriate organizational leadership. In the study of various leadership processes, the focus has long been on identifying the most successful and effective leadership styles or universal behaviors that would enable successful and efficient organizational performance. There are many opinions today regarding the existence of an ideal leadership style that would be effective in all situations. Numerous studies in this field have shown that the most effective leadership style is one that combines various leadership approaches in accordance with the organization’s operational needs and demands. This type of adaptability in leadership, known as situational leadership, is difficult for leaders to achieve, but when they do, it can significantly contribute to the organization’s performance. Our research focused on a selected service company, which we analyzed from a leadership perspective. In the master’s thesis, we presented and examined the current leadership practices in the company, analyzed the role of the leader, the importance of company leadership, and the qualities, abilities, and tasks a leader needs for successful leadership. We gathered data using a questionnaire, which provided insight into leadership from both the managers' and employees’ perspectives. The analysis of the surveys showed that leadership in the selected company is successful, as reflected in the company’s performance over time. Following the analysis and leadership evaluation, we provided suggestions for improving existing motivation, communication, and leadership practices that could support further business improvement and enhance employee satisfaction and motivation.
