Obremenjujoče delovno okolje, pomanjkanje potrebne opreme in slaba ergonomska prilagojenost okolja le še dodatno poslabšujejo delovne pogoje in povečujejo tveganje za izgorelost.

Title:Ergonomics of the workplace as a risk factor for the occurrence of burnout syndrome in nurses
Abstract:Introduction: Nurses in intensive care units (ICU) on a daily basis deal with complex, emergency situations that act as stressors and have a significant impact on their health and quality of life. Working conditions in the workplace are also a source of stress, causing nurses to experience dissatisfaction and suffer from burnout. Methods: In the theoretical part of the master's thesis, we used a descriptive method with a review of scientific and professional literature to define the field. We developed and sent a questionnaire through the 1Ka platform to bed side nurses at the Clinical Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Units - Department of Intensive Care (OIT), Clinical Department of Internal Intensive Medicine (KOIIM) and Clinical Department of Cardiovascular Surgery - Intensive Care Unit (KVIT). Results: More than half of the nurses surveyed agree with the statement that poor adaptation of the working environment to employees increases the risk of burnout. More than half of the respondents experienced a feeling of exhaustion, mood swings, lack of appetite, digestive problems, sleep problems, anxiety, headache and pain in the neck, shoulders, upper and lower back in the last 12 months. More than half of them also experienced a drop in efficiency, a drop in concentration, a decrease in motivation, making mistakes, forgetfulness, anger, nervousness, a sense of worthlessness, disappointment in oneself and a sense of guilt. Nurses at the ICU make the most use of sheets and boards, and the least use of the transfer belt, free-standing movable lift and ceiling lift to transfer patients. These are often not available to them at all. The results showed that nurses in the ICU rarely face conflicts, mostly from colleagues. Also, verbal or physical violence rarely occurs on the part of co-workers and patients, in principle they do not face it. The surveyed nurses receive the most praise from the patient's relatives, patients, less from colleagues and the least from the management of the department. Discussion and conclusion: The work of nurses at the ICU is highly taxing, both physically and mentally, with long-term consequences for both individuals and the organisation. A burdensome working environment, a lack of necessary equipment and poor ergonomic adaptation of the environment only further worsen working conditions and increase the risk of burnout. It is also necessary to improve interpersonal relationships in the workplace, promote better communication between colleagues and management, and increase the visibility and respect of the work of nurses.
