Title:Emotional intelligence of the leader as a motivating factor for employees
Abstract:In today’s organizational environment, emotional intelligence of leaders has become one of the key competencies that significantly influence workplace climate, interpersonal relationships, as well as employee motivation and satisfaction. Leaders with a high level of emotional intelligence are better equipped to manage their teams effectively, as they are able to recognize and appropriately regulate their own emotions while also understanding the emotions of others. This contributes to creating a psychologically safe, trusting, and supportive environment, which greatly enhances employees’ intrinsic motivation. Despite the increasing presence of emotionally intelligent leadership in organizations, there is still a lack of systematic research that thoroughly examines how specific dimensions of emotional intelligence—such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, intrinsic motivation, and social skills—affect employee motivation and workplace behavior. The main aim of this research was to conduct an in-depth analysis of how leaders’ emotional intelligence influences employee motivation, and to understand how various emotional competencies of leaders impact work engagement, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and the willingness to achieve common goals. The study focused on identifying key leadership behaviors that either foster or hinder employees’ intrinsic motivation, and on developing recommendations for the practical implementation of emotionally intelligent leadership in organizational settings. The findings revealed that leaders who demonstrate high levels of empathy, self-awareness, and social skills have a positive effect on the motivational climate within the company. The results show that employees in such environments are more likely to take responsibility, show initiative, and identify with organizational goals. Conversely, a lack of emotional intelligence in leadership is often associated with employee dissatisfaction, reduced motivation, and lower work performance. Through analysis and interpretation of the gathered data, this thesis contributes to a better understanding of the importance of emotional intelligence in modern leadership and offers concrete recommendations for the development of leaders who can foster a motivational, psychologically safe, and sustainable work environment.
