Title:The role of parents in raising children to physical/sports activity
Abstract:The diploma thesis discussed the role of parents in raising children to physical or sports activity. The purpose of the research was to determine the extent to which parents influence the physical/sports activity of their children and in what way this influence is expressed. A quantitative method of data collection was used, employing an anonymous survey questionnaire, which was completed by 52 parents of first-grade children of the Polzela Primary School and the Andraž nad Polzelo Branch School. Descriptive and causal non-experimental methods of empirical pedagogical research were applied. The empirical part investigated the relationships between parents' education level, type of work, physical/sports activity, and their children's involvement in physical/sports activities. It was found that parents with higher education levels do not involve their children in organized physical/sports activities outside of school more frequently than parents with lower education levels; that most parents are occasionally (2–3 times a week) physically/sports active; that regular physical/sports activity of parents has a positive effect on the physical/sports activity of their children; that children of parents who regularly engage in physical/sports activity are more often involved in sports activities; that children of parents who perform administrative or intellectual work are not more often regularly physically active than children of parents who do physical work; and that the strongest reason for involving children in physical/sports activities outside of school is the children's own desire.
