Abstract:Magistrsko delo raziskuje vpliv praktičnih raziskovalnih nalog na razumevanje enostavnih naprav pri učencih 5. razreda.

Title:5th grade students' comprehension of simple devices and machines through practical research tasks - a case study at Primary school Hruševec Šentjur
Abstract:The master's thesis explores the impact of practical inquiry-based tasks on 5th grade students' understanding of simple machines. The theoretical framework integrates pedagogical, psychological and technical perspectives, emphasizing inquiry-based and collaborative learning. The empirical part presents a case study using a mixed-methods approach, conducted at Hruševec Šentjur Primary School with a sample of 35 students (N = 35). Students engaged in hands-on group activities focused on levers, gears, swings and motion transfer systems. In data collection, pre- and post-test are included, as well as observation sheets and student reflections. Quantitative analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a statistically significant improvement (p < 0,01) in students' conceptual understanding, while qualitative analysis revealed the development of diverse problem-solving strategies. The results indicate that experiential learning promotes cognitive development, enhances intrinsic motivation, and fosters a deeper grasp of technical concepts. The study highlights the importance of active student involvement, the teacher's role as a facilitator and the integration of experimentation into science and technology lessons. The findings support the systematic integration of inquiry-based learning and experimentation into the primary school science and technology curriculum when teaching complex technical concepts.
