Title:Vocabulary learning strategies in Slovenian language as a second and foreign language : =master's thesis
Abstract:In a time of numerous foreign immigrants' arrival to the Slovene-speaking space, there is a notable increase in the need for Slovene to be learned and taught as a second and foreign language (SSFL). Vocabulary acquisition is an immensely important part of the process of SSFL learning. Success rates in learning a second or a foreign language are, to a great extent, influenced by the selection of appropriate learning strategies. The master's thesis thus defines vocabulary learning strategies in SSFL and examines which strategies of learning Slovene vocabulary are commonly employed by foreign students studying Slovene as a second or foreign language. Our research showed that the use of strategies to learn vocabulary while learning Slovene as a second or foreign language is important, supported by the findings of statistically relevant differences in vocabulary learning strategy selection, dependent on both the language-acquisition level and language group of the learner.
