Abstract:Namen magistrskega dela je bil s sistematičnim pregledom literature analizirati vsebnost mikroplastike v različnih skupinah živil in oceniti prehransko izpostavljenost človeka. Najvišje vsebnosti mikroplastike so bile zaznane v sušenih ribah (44,54 ± 9,70 delca/g), morskih algah (15,15 ± 16,42 delca/g) in kozicah (11,22 ± 8,72 delca/g).

Title:Microplastics in food
Abstract:The aim of this master's thesis was to conduct a systematic review of the literature to analyze the presence of microplastics in various food groups and to assess human dietary exposure. The highest concentrations of microplastics were found in dried fish (44.54 ± 9.70 particles/g), seaweed (15.15 ± 16.42 particles/g), and shrimp (11.22 ± 8.72 particles/g). Among plant-based foods, sugar stood out with an average value of 291 particles/100 g. Dietary exposure analysis revealed high variability in estimated annual microplastic intake, ranging from several hundred to tens of thousands of particles per person per year, depending on the type of food, consumption quantity, and geographical region. Of particular concern are foods that are consumed whole (such as shellfish and shrimp) or those that come into contact with packaging (such as salt, sugar, and infant formula), as they represent significant sources of microplastic contamination. Due to methodological inconsistencies between studies, the use of different measurement units, and the lack of standardized analytical procedures, comparability of data is limited, which further complicates the risk assessment for human health.
Keywords:microplastics, food safety, contamination, human exposure
