Abstract:Profiliranje storilcev kaznivih dejanj, zlasti serijskih morilcev, predstavlja eno najzanimivejših, a hkrati tudi najbolj kontroverznih področij forenzične psihologije. Serija brutalnih umorov v londonski četrti Whitechapel je vzbudila svetovno pozornost, saj storilec ni bil nikoli ujet, kljub številnim pričam in preiskavam. Kasnejše analize z uporabo vedenjskega profiliranja so razkrile, da je storilec verjetno posedoval določeno znanje anatomije, kazal znake sadizma in nagnjenosti k nadzoru nad žrtvijo. Čeprav so podatki omejeni, ostaja primer Jacka Razparača temeljna referenca za razumevanje serijskih morilcev. Profiliranje danes združuje psihološke, kriminalistične in forenzične pristope.

Title:Psychological profiling: Analizing Jack the Ripper : diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študijskega programa Varstvoslovje
Abstract:Offender profiling, particularly of serial killers, represents one of the most intriguing yet controversial areas of forensic psychology. It is a process of constructing a psychological, behavioral, and demographic description of an unknown perpetrator based on the analysis of the crime scene, victim selection, method of execution, and other significant elements. Although this method does not provide direct identification, it can significantly contribute to narrowing the pool of suspects and guiding the investigation. Serial killers represent a distinct group of offenders, as they often exhibit complex psychological patterns such as pathological narcissism, psychopathy, or sexual deviance. Various typological models have been developed in the literature to classify their motives, from hedonistic and power-driven, to missionary and visionary killers. However, in practice, offenders often transcend the boundaries of these classifications. Historically, one of the earliest and most studied cases in the context of profiling is the case of Jack the Ripper from 1888. The series of brutal murders in London’s Whitechapel district drew global attention, as the killer was never captured despite numerous witness accounts and investigations. Later analyses using behavioral profiling revealed that the offender likely possessed anatomical knowledge, exhibited signs of sadism, and had a strong need for control over the victim. Despite limited data, the case of Jack the Ripper remains a fundamental reference for understanding serial killer behavior. Today, profiling integrates psychological, criminological, and forensic approaches. Increasing emphasis is placed on scientific validation, ethical responsibility, and the use of modern technology. Despite certain limitations, profiling would establish itself as an important part of the investigative process if independent researchers could prove its validity. Until then, caution is advised in the use of profiling, as there is still no solid evidence.
