Title:The influence of emojis in malicious messages on the responsiveness of young adults aged 18 to 25
Abstract:The thesis examined the impact of emojis in malicious messages on the responsiveness and perceived trust of young people. The aim of the research was to determine whether the presence of emojis increases young people's susceptibility to responding to such messages and contributes to their greater persuasiveness. The problem was identified due to the increasingly frequent use of emojis in online communication and their potential misuse in social engineering attacks. In the empirical part, an online survey was conducted in which respondents assessed the likelihood of responding to a message and the degree of agreement with statements. One group received messages with emojis, while the other received messages without them. The results showed that, in most cases, the presence of emojis did not lead to statistically significant differences in responsiveness or trust. Only in one instance were messages with emojis rated as more trustworthy and elicited greater responsiveness. The limitations of the study included the length of the survey, possible insincerity of responses, and insufficiently convincing message examples. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of the influence of emojis on the perception of malicious messages and opens possibilities for further research with more realistic examples and the use of methods that enable the observation of actual behaviour.
