Abstract:Uvod: Okužbe sečil so najbolj pogosta bakterijska okužba, ki prizadene zlasti ženske.

Title:The effect of probiotics on the prevention of urinary tract infections
Abstract:Introduction: Urinary tract infections (UTI) are most commonly a bacterial infection, particularly affecting women. UTIs are classified as either complicated or uncomplicated. Probiotics may support the restoration of the natural microbiota. Due to their accessibility and safety, they present a potential complementary approach to current treatment strategies. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effect of probiotics on the prevention of UTIs. Methods: A literature review was conducted to explore the impact of probiotics on UTI prevention. Studies were obtained from the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases. The findings were presented through a descriptive synthesis. Results: We analyzed nine studies. These studies examined the effectiveness of probiotics in various populations, Studies suggest a possible effect of probiotics in reducing recurrent urinary tract infections, although results vary between individual studies. Discussion and conclusion: Probiotics show potential in the prevention of UTIs; however, due to conflicting findings, their effectiveness cannot be confirmed. It would be advisable to conduct more high-quality randomized controlled trials to better determine the most effective probiotic strains, appropriate dosages, and optimal duration of therapy.
