Abstract:V digitalni dobi, kjer tehnološki napredek nenehno oblikuje vedenja in navade odjemalcev, je moč zaznati izrazito evolucijo televizije iz preprostega medija v kompleksno kulturno obliko.

Title:Global marketing strategy in streaming media services: a case study on netflix content localization
Abstract:In the digital age, where technological advancements continuously shape our behaviors and consumer habits, we can observe a significant evolution of television from a simple medium into a complex cultural form. The development of streaming media services such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime enables not only content flexibility based on user preferences but also the collection of data on consumer habits, fundamentally transforming the television industry. This transformation involves technological and cultural processes and fosters more direct interaction between companies and consumers. It is crucial for companies to understand and adapt their strategies to remain competitive and relevant in the rapidly changing market of streaming media services. The transnationalization of content represents a key element in the development of streaming media services, allowing providers like Netflix to tailor content to specific cultural, linguistic, and social preferences. Through this approach, companies are able to reach a broader global audience and strengthen their presence in the international market. The process of transnationalization includes the localization of content, which enables the platform to maintain a high level of relevance and appeal to viewers in different regions, essential for long-term growth and success in the competitive world of digital media. In the theoretical part of the thesis, we define the concept of strategic marketing and global marketing strategies and outline various approaches to strategy. We examine the importance of the global environment and the process and selection of entry into global markets. We also focus on the steps in developing global marketing strategies, emphasizing the theories of globalization, localization, and glocalization, and conclude the chapter with a review of standardization and localization strategies, as well as consumer perspectives on global and local elements. In the empirical part of our research, we focus on the example of Netflix's strategy, which includes global expansion, paying particular attention to the strategy of adapting content to local markets. We then analyze the presence of locally adapted content among the top ten most popular titles on Netflix's charts for fourteen selected countries. Furthermore, we analyze the correlation between the number of locally adapted titles and their popularity in different countries, and finally, we examine what percentage of views among the globally most popular content on Netflix is represented by non-English titles.
