Abstract:Afriška prašičja kuga (APK) je ena najnevarnejših virusnih bolezni, ki ogroža populacijo domačih in divjih prašičev ter povzroča velike gospodarske posledice. Ključne težave predstavlja premalo znanja o pomenu biovarnosti in posledično, na primer pomanjkljiva uporaba zaščitne opreme, neustrezne higienske razmere in pomanjkljivo preprečevanje vstopanja patogenov v rejo.

Title:Avaluation of biosecurity measures for preventing african swine fever- challenges and solutions for slovenia
Abstract:African swine fever (ASF) is one of the most dangerous viral diseases that threatens the domestic and wild pig population and causes major economic consequences. In this thesis, we analyzed the existing biosecurity measures in Slovenia, the effectiveness of their implementation, and the impact of the human factor on the risk of introducing and spreading ASF. The research is based on a review of legislation, expert sources, and the results of three semi-structured interviews with veterinary experts: a veterinarian, a veterinary inspector, and a pig health specialist. The findings show that the legislative framework in Slovenia is well established and in line with guidelines for prevention and control of ASF and European legislation. However, the implementation of measures in practice, especially in non-commercial farming, is not always consistent. Key problems include insufficient knowledge about the importance of biosecurity, evident for example in the lack of personal protective equipment use and inadequate hygiene conditions, which result in insufficient protection of pigs from pathogen incursion. The role of humans as a risk factor for disease introduction is confirmed, as poor biosecurity awareness represents a significant threat. All three interviewees emphasize the importance of additional education, information sharing, and stricter control of biosecurity implementation in pig holdings as key measures to improve protection. Despite the limited number of interviewees, the research provides important insight into the state of biosecurity in Slovenia and can serve as an expert basis for further measures and improvements.
