Abstract:Magistrska naloga obravnava razvoj trga električnih vozil v Evropi z vidika tehničnih, ekonomskih in političnih dejavnikov, pri čemer poseben poudarek namenja smotrnosti nakupa električnega vozila v Sloveniji. Analiza vključuje različne scenarije polnjenja – domače polnjenje, javno omrežje in uporabo lastne sončne elektrarne – ter izračunava skupne stroške lastništva v primerjavi z vozili z notranjim izgorevanjem.

Title:Factors driving the growth of the EV market in Europe and the cost-effectiveness of EV purchase in Slovenia
Abstract:This master’s thesis examines the development of the electric vehicle (EV) market in Europe from the perspective of technological, economic, and policy factors, with a particular focus on the cost-effectiveness of purchasing an EV in Slovenia. Over the last decade, electric vehicles have evolved from a niche product into a segment of the mass market, driven by technological progress in battery development, declining costs, and the expansion of charging infrastructure. The thesis analyzes the impact of falling battery prices and increasing driving range on EV sales growth and applies regression and correlation analysis to verify whether there is a statistically significant relationship between technological indicators and market performance. In addition to the European market analysis, the thesis includes a comparative total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis for Slovenia, assessing whether the purchase of an electric vehicle in 2025 is already an economically viable decision for an average user. The analysis considers different charging scenarios (home charging, public network charging, and the use of private solar power plants) and calculates the overall ownership costs compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. The results show that market growth is primarily driven by a combination of technological progress, improved economic accessibility, and government incentives, while the long-term sustainability of the market depends on reducing reliance on subsidies and further developing charging infrastructure.
