Abstract:V podjetniškem okolju odločitve nastajajo v pogojih nepopolnih informacij in časovnih omejitev, zato kognitivne pristranskosti ter raven samozavesti odločilno usmerjajo izbire in njihove izide.

Title:Between confidence and reality: the role of cognitive bias in slovenian entrepreneurship
Abstract:In the entrepreneurial environment, decisions are made under conditions of incomplete information and time constraints, therefore cognitive biases and the level of self-confidence decisively guide choices and their outcomes. We place at the centre the influence of cognitive biases, particularly the Dunning–Kruger effect, on entrepreneurial decision-making, as well as the role of self-confidence and the support environment as key factors along the entrepreneur’s path from idea to implementation. The aim of the study was to determine the extent to which Slovenian entrepreneurs overestimate their own abilities, how self-confidence affects their entrepreneurial activity and decision-making, and how entrepreneurs perceive the support environment for the development of entrepreneurship. The theoretical part is based on a systematic review of domestic and international scholarly literature, which provided the foundation for the practical part of the research. The empirical part combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to offer a comprehensive treatment of the research problem. In the quantitative strand we used a survey questionnaire, and for the qualitative strand we conducted semi-structured interviews. The results show that cognitive biases play an important role in entrepreneurial decision-making, since self-confidence and optimism act as drivers of entrepreneurial activity, yet neglect of one’s own limitations can, through overestimation of abilities, lead to irrational decisions. An important corrective may be the support environment for the development of entrepreneurship, as it offers mentoring, institutional and financial support at different stages of entrepreneurs’ development, although the study identified limited awareness of the available forms of support, which potentially reduces the use of this environment. Looking ahead, we propose the development of support mechanisms that are better tailored to entrepreneurs and address the causes and consequences of cognitive biases, thereby systematically creating conditions for the growth of entrepreneurial activity in Slovenia. Future research should focus on understanding the real needs of entrepreneurs in order to create an innovative and adaptable entrepreneurial ecosystem that balances the benefits of self-confidence with well-considered entrepreneurial decisions.
