Title:The relationship between transformational leadership and patient safety as a quality indicator in healthcare organizations
Abstract:Introduction:Transformational leadership plays a key role in creating a safe working environment in healthcare organizations, as it motivates, inspires, and strengthens collaboration among employees and is closely related to patient safety as a quality indicator. The purpose of this thesis was to explore this relationship, examine its impact on risk reduction, clarify advantages and limitations, and highlight the role of leaders in shaping a safety culture. Methods: A descriptive method with thematic analysis and a systematic literature review was used in the databases PubMed, CINAHL, SAGE, and Google Scholar. Between 2015 and 2025, 1630 results were identified. The PRISMA diagram was applied for the review, and methodological quality was assessed with the JBI tool. Results: Nine studies were included in the final analysis. The main theme identified was »Transformational leadership as a path to safe and high-quality care«, with the main sub-themes: favorable conditions for nurses, improved safety indicators, and better care and treatment outcomes. Discussion and Conclusion: The results show that transformational leadership is associated with a safety culture and employee satisfaction and promotes sustainable quality of healthcare. Based on the findings, strengthening transformational leadership is recommended as an important approach to improve the safety culture and reduce risks to patients.
