Abstract:Uvod: Vaginalni mikrobiom, kjer prevladujejo laktobacili, predstavlja ključno zaščito pred vaginalnimi okužbami, kot je vulvovaginalna kandidiaza (VVC). Neravnovesje mikrobiote vodi v povečano pojavnost teh okužb. Uporaba probiotikov, zlasti sevov laktobacilov, so obetaven dopolnilni pristop za njihovo preprečevanje in zdravljenje. Metode: Izvedli smo pregled znanstvene literature v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, SAGE in Cochrane Library. Uporabili smo PRISMA diagram za prikaz izbora virov. Vključili smo sistematične preglede, randomizirane kontrolirane raziskave in kvazieksperimentalno raziskavo.

Title:Probiotics in reducing the incidence of vaginal infections in woman
Abstract:Introduction: The vaginal microbiome, dominated by lactobacilli, plays a key protective role against vaginal infections such as vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). An imbalance in the microbiota leads to an increased incidence of these infections. The use of probiotics, particularly lactobacillus strains, represents a promising complementary approach for their prevention and treatment. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the impact of probiotic consumption on the reduction of vaginal infections in women based on a review of the literature. Methods: We conducted a review of scientific literature using the databases PubMed, SAGE, and the Cochrane Library. A PRISMA diagram was used to illustrate the selection process of the sources. We included systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, and one quasi-experimental study. Results: A total of ten studies were included: two systematic reviews, seven randomized placebo-controlled trials, and one quasi-experimental study. Most of the studies confirmed that probiotics are effective in reducing the symptoms of VVC and preventing recurrences, especially when used in combination with standard antifungal treatment. Discussion and Conclusion: The use of probiotics, particularly lactobacillus strains, shows potential in the treatment and prevention of VVC, especially in non-pregnant women. Effectiveness depends on the specific strain, mode of administration, and individual factors. Further research is needed, particularly in pregnant women, due to the lack of studies in this area.
