Title:Implementation of the European Safety Culture Model at Slovenian Railway – Freight Transport
Abstract:This master’s thesis examines safety culture in rail freight transport within Slovenian Railways - Freight Transport using the European Railway Safety Culture Model. The aim of the research was to assess employees’ perceptions of key safety culture factors and organizational elements, and to determine whether these perceptions differ according to the work environment, length of service, and age. The study is based on a quantitative research approach, with data collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using statistical methods. The results indicate that perceptions of safety culture are generally high and well balanced. The highest ratings were given to clearly defined safety responsibilities and the perception of safety as an important value in everyday decision-making. A statistically significant difference was identified only with respect to the work environment, where employees working in operational settings reported a lower level of awareness of how their work affects the safety of others. The lowest-rated areas were learning from experience and interdepartmental cooperation, indicating opportunities for further improvement. Based on the findings, targeted measures are proposed to strengthen systematic learning processes, improve cooperation between departments, and increase employee involvement in safety improvement activities, thereby supporting the continued development of safety culture.
