Abstract:Uvod: RSV je zelo nalezljiv sezonski virus, ki povzroča okužbe dihal, zlati pri dojenčkih, prezgodaj rojenih otrocih in imunokompromitiranih osebah, zaradi česar predstavlja pomembno zdravstveno in ekonomsko breme zaradi pogostih hospitalizacij. Metode: Izvedli smo pregled literature, pridobljene z vnaprej določeno iskalno strategijo v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate in Cochrane Library.

Title:Effective interventions for prevention of respiratory syncytial virus infections in children: literature review
Abstract:Introduction: RSV is a highly contagious seasonal virus that causes respiratory infections, particularly in infants, premature babies, and immunocompromised individuals. As a result, it represents a significant health and economic burden due to frequent hospitalizations. Methods: We conducted a literature review using a predetermined search strategy in the PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, and Cochrane Library databases. We classified the included studies according to the hierarchy of evidence and assessed the strength of the evidence. Results: Of the 428 studies obtained, 9 articles were included in the final analysis and synthesis of articles. Using content analysis, we formed the category "Effective interventions for the prevention of RSV infections in children" and two subcategories "Effectiveness and safety of maternal vaccination for the prevention of RSV infections in children" and "Effectiveness and safety of monoclonal antibodies for the prevention of RSV infections in children". Discussion and conclusion: Vaccination of pregnant women against RSV and the use of monoclonal antibodies in children are effective and safe strategies for reducing lower respiratory tract infections, hospitalizations, and other complications in infants and children. Despite promising results, further research is needed on long-term safety, the impact on preterm birth, and the role of social determinants of health.
