Abstract:Namen diplomskega dela je bil raziskati vlogo motivacije in različne pristope vodenja pri doseganju uspešnosti športnih ekip.

Title:Leadership and motivation of sports teams: performance comparison between different sports
Abstract:The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the role of motivation and leadership styles in achieving the success of sports teams. In the theoretical part, key concepts such as motivation, leadership, teamwork, and goal setting in a sports environment were presented, with particular emphasis on the interconnection of these elements in achieving optimal team performance. The focus was placed on the role of the leader or coach as a motivator, organizer, and guide of the team, who influences both individual athletes and the team as a whole through an adapted leadership style and appropriate motivational approaches. The empirical part of the research was based on a qualitative research method, based on two structured interviews with individuals actively involved in the functioning of a sports team. The data were analyzed using transcript analysis, which provided an in-depth insight into the practical experiences and perceptions of athletes and coaches. The results of the research showed that motivation and effective leadership are key factors for sports team success. The interviewees highlighted the importance of individual intrinsic motivation, team spirit, clear and two-way communication, and support from both managerial and professional staff. The findings confirmed that team success does not depend solely on the technical skills of players on the field, but also on leadership strategies, collaboration among team members, the establishment of trust, and the creation of a supportive environment that enables individuals and the team to achieve common goals. Furthermore, the research emphasizes that a combination of different leadership styles (autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire) along with a balanced use of internal and external motivators contributes to optimal team mobilization. The findings of this thesis thus provide practical guidelines for sports organizations and coaches seeking to enhance their team’s effectiveness, while also contributing to a better understanding of the psychological and organizational aspects of success in a sports environment.
