V diplomskem delu smo izvedli pregled literature in uporabili metodo komparacije, za primerjavo mnenj različnih avtorjev, in sicer v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL in Google učenjak.

Title:Adult people with intellectual disability and the use of coercive interventions
Abstract:Most people with intellectual disabilities are not naturally aggressive, violent, or dangerous. Such behavior usually develops due to different factors that can lead to escalation. The use of special restraint measures can cause various unwanted effects for both patients and healthcare staff. For this reason, it is important that nursing staff are aware of risks and try to calm the patient using de-escalation techniques or medication before applying physical restraint. The aim of this thesis is to present the impact of special restraint measures on managing aggressive behavior in adults with intellectual disabilities. A literature review was carried out, and a comparative method was used to examine the views of different authors. The databases searched included PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, and Google Scholar. Only articles related to the use of special restraint measures in adults with intellectual disabilities and written in English were included. The studies included in this project were selected using a PRISMA flow diagram, which shows the final number of articles based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Out of 90 articles, 5 were included in the final analysis. Based on the common features of the selected studies, an analysis and synthesis of the collected data were performed. The results show that planned use of special restraint measures is safer and more effective than using physical restraint in crisis situations. Continuous education of psychiatric nursing staff is very important, as better knowledge can help reduce the use of restraint measures and replace them with de-escalation techniques whenever possible.
